Are the Jews Really Special?
Deuteronomy 7:6
"For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth."
God chose the nation of Israel, the Jews, to be His special people. A lot of people ask "Why the Jews?"
The Bible make it very clear that the choice of the Jewish people as God's chosen people was a sovereign act of God. God, as the Creator of the universe, has the right to choose as He wills.
God does not play favorites, however. The sovereign choice of Israel was for God's own redemptive purposes. In His wisdom, He chose a family to influence all families and nations of the earth to follow Him. God chose Israel to introduce His Word and His Son, Jesus Christ, to the world.
We see in Genesis 12:1-3 God's divine choice of Abram and his heirs as a redemptive family in the earth, and later as a redemptive nation. This is repeated in many other places in Scripture: Genesis 17:3-9, Genesis 26:2-5, Genesis 28:13-15, Leviticus 20:26, Psalm 105:8-11, Amos 3:2 among others.
God chose a special people, the people of Israel, and a special land, the land of Israel. Once more, after nearly 2000 years, we see the chosen people inhabiting the chosen land.
This land was given to them as an eternal inheritance. The day is coming soon when God will restore the nation of Israel to Himself, and them to the land that belongs to them....and God will deal with all nations who are against His chosen people.
Genesis 12:3
"I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
