Abortion

I had the occasion to speak with a gentleman at our recent God's Not Broke picnic (Saturday, August 2nd).  While he took issue with many things of God and the Bible (he was an atheist), we had a lively discussion in regards to abortion.

People who support abortion do so for many reasons.  But, unfortunately, they will stand before the God of the universe one day and give an account for their beliefs and their actions.  They will have no excuse.

There is no excuse, particularly in God's eyes, for the support of the murder of the innocent.  Moses gave the children of Israel the Ten Commandments (Exodus Chapter 20) which includes "Thou shalt not murder".  Jesus Himself reaffirmed this in Matthew 19:18.

This gentleman's main argument was that there is no life at conception.  The cell that is formed in the womb is not a viable living being, so it can't be murder.  But, when questioned about up to what point an abortion can take place (Second Trimester - six months), I asked him if there were any possibility of a child in the womb at six months being viable outside the womb.  His answer:  "Yes, but not in all instances".

So, he had to admit that, at least at six months, there is a living human being.  Is this not murder???  Absolutely it is.  So, the only point of contention is at what point that living human being began to be a living human being.  I contend that it was a conception.  If that cell that is formed at conception ultimately becomes a living human being, was it not the same when it was conceived?

There is no excuse for the murder of more than 4,000 helpless human lives that are snuffed out daily in America's modern day death camps.  And, there is certainly no good reason for it.  This gentleman also argued that abortion serves a purpose in the instance of rape, or when the child will be severly deformed or handicapped.

In the words of Dr. Kent Hovind, why do we punish the child for the actions of the rapist?  Shouldn't we instead punish the rapist?  And in the instance of deformation or handicaps, these are still human beings created in the image of God...do we have any right whatsover to end that life?  NO.

Just as there are many reasons for abortion in some eyes, but no excuses for it in God's eyes, so it is with all sin.  While some sins, like abortion, are more destructive and bring God's judgment directly on the nation who tolerates it, and and every sin brings an eternal sentence of judgment on the sinner.

But, the Gospel is the Good News for those who are willing to turn from their sin, and turn to God, and ask His forgiveness for the violation of His Law, and trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and their Savior.  "All who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."  (Romans 10:13).

On judgment day (all men are appointed to judgment) the repentant sinner will stand before God forgiven and made perfect because He has imputed to them the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ His Son.

If you desire to be reconciled to God, and experience the spiritual rebirth (2 Corinthians 5:17) which is necessary to "see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3), then ask Him to forgive you for all your sin, and put your complete trust In Jesus for salvation.  Then, find a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church and read your Bible every day.  Spend time in prayer with God, and follow what He instructs you to do through His Word.
