What Is Truth? John 18:28-38
In verse 38 of John Chapter 18, Pilate asks Jesus the question "What is truth?". Pilate asked the question that so many people today are wondering and are confused about. This world that we live in is actually waging war on the truth!
"What do you want the truth to be?" This is the prevailing question today.
Some statistics might be in order:
72% of the American people believe that there is no absolute truth.
Even more shocking;
67% of professing conservative, Bible-believing Christians do not believe that there is absolute truth!
So, what is truth? We could look at the dictionary definition, but, in general, truth is:
That which is right for everyone, at all times, and at all places
There are basically two interpretations for the understanding of truth:

So, what is truth? We could look at the dictionary definition, but, in general, truth is:

There are basically two interpretations for the understanding of truth:
- Truth is defined by God for everyone. It is objective and absolute. Objective means something defined outside of ourselves (by God). Absolute means that which is true for all people, for all times, for all places.
- Truth is defined by the individual (self). It is subjective and situational.
Your view of truth is either shaped by objectivity, or by self.
It's not too hard to believe that truth is an endangered species in this world today, especially among those who are not born again. But, as the statistic above indicates, truth is also in danger of extinction within the professing Christian church. This isn't hard to believe since, more and more, the Word of God is being abandoned in the professing church today.
