The Cross of Christ - Romans 3:23-27
If we have our theology correct on the Cross of Jesus Christ, then I believe that all other things of the Lord will fall into proper place.
Our confidence should be in Jesus Christ, and in Him alone, and we should relegate all else as simply garbage. Where is our focus? Do we really understand what Jesus has done? Do we really understand what God the Father has done?
Do we really understand what "For all have sinned" really means?
For someone who is outside of Christ, for the lost, he or she should fall on their faces and tremble at the very thought that "all have sinned".
For the believer, if we did understand, our joy would be so unspeakable that we would have to be chained to our seats because we have been forgiven of all of the vile acts that we have committed against an Almighty and Holy God!
So, why doesn't this bother the unbeliever, and why doesn't it bother most professing Christians? Simply because we really don't understand who God really is.
Because we live in a culture, in the world and in the church, that has removed the Holiness of God. We live in a culture that portrays God as Someone who is a benevolent, benign Creator who loves everyone and will look the other way and be slack in His own justice in order to treat His creation well.
We live in a culture, for those who believe that there is a God, that He is so loving that He could never send anyone to hell. We live in a culture that disregards sin, and in so doing, disregards responsibility, so that we, as a society, blame all of our ills on our upbringing....on our parents....on our surroundings....on anything but ourselves.
Sin and hell are subjects that most churches don't even want to touch, because they will "offend" someone. And that's why most have thier theology wrong on the Cross of Christ.
Sin is not neutral. Sin is not simply a mistake. Every sin is against a Holy and Almighty God. Every sin against God is seeking to knock God off of His throne. Our sin is not against man, our sin is against a Holy God.
God spoke to the planets and the galaxies, and told them where to place themselves in the universe, and they obeyed. God told the mountains and the valleys where to place themselves, and they obeyed. God set a limit for the seas, and they obeyed.
But, God tells us to come to Him, and we say "NO!". God tells us to obey, and we refuse!
We've lost the fear of the Lord. We've lost the respect of God. I believe we have become way to familiar with God. We've lost respect for just who He really is.
There are two definitions of the word "fear".
- One means to be in dread or terror; to be frightened.
- The other means to be in reverence and respect; in admiration and worship; awe and astonishment.
We aren't to be afraid of God, but we are certainly to be in terror of the wrath of God that will be poured out on those who are in opposition to Him, on those who are not His children.
Those who don't know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are an enemy of God, and they are at war with Him. Why? Because God is good and man is evil. We are evil by nature. We sin because we are sinners.....we're not sinners becasue we sin. Sin will separate us from God.
The problem with our society today is that we've been taught that man is basically good. The Bible says just the opposite, that man is basically bad, and bad men to not like good men. And God is good.
