Where Do We Fight The Battle?

Angels are powerful created beings.

You can see this is true all throughout the Scriptures, but just take a look at a few of them:
  • 2 Kings 6:16-17;
  • Daniel 10:10-14;
  • Jude 9

I do believe that we would be absolutely startled, to say the least, if we were made aware of what is going on in the unseen realm around us.  The Scriptures lead us to believe that there are constant battles going on among the angelic beings, both fallen and not, in a fight between the forces of good and evil.

Take a look at Ephesians 6:10-18.

Most of us have heard of "spiritual warfare", but what does this mean, and how does it apply to us as Christians, and to our every-day lives?

Quite often, the issue of spiritual warfare gets convoluted by sensationalism, superstitions, televison, and most recently, the movies.  These only serve to misguide and confuse most believers, and drive the world away from the true meaning of the Gospel and God's Word.

Does Satan wield such great power that he can distribute that power to his followers and use it to oppress and harrass the Christians?  This is a question that, I believe, all born-again believers have at one time or another.  We need to take a no-nonsense approach to examining what the Word of God says about "spiritual warfare", and how we should equip ourselves to stand in the heat of the battle.

Let's take a look at three principles of spiritual warfare as it affects our lives as Christians:

  • Where does our power to stand against Satan come from?
  • What is Satan's power, and how does he use it?
  • How do we, as believers, stand against Satan?
  • Where does our power to stand against Satan come from?

    Ephesians 6:10 tells us to "be strong in the Lord".  The Greek word literally means "to receive strength, or to be empowered".  It is not our strength that equips us to stand.....it is God's strength that has been invested in us when we submit our lives to Jesus Christ.

    Satan does not flee from our power, but from God's power within us that overcomes him.  "Greater is He who is in us that he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

    We have the promise of God, from James 4:7-8, that when we draw near to God, He will draw near to us.  Resistance is no longer measured by our strength, but the strength of God who draws us out of temptation.
